CHANGES IN LIPID COMPOSITION OF Phaseolus vulgaris LEAVES AFTER SIMULATING ACID RAIN TREATMENT

چکیده
In the present study we have examined the influence of single spraying with simulated acid rain (pH 1.8) on the content of main lipid classes and their fatty acid composition in the thylakoid membranes of bean plants. Acid stress caused considerable changes in the investigated parameters. A decline in the content of linolenic acid, a highly unsatureted fatty acid which is an indicator of lipid peroxidation was observed. This decrease should result in decreased fluidity of the membrane lipid bilayer. The MGDG/DGDG ratio considerably increased at the 3rd hour after acid spraying, which is an indicator of membrane injury and of the lower packing properties.

Lipid Composition of Pea and Bean Leaves during Chloroplast Development.
The changes in composition of the complex lipids were followed during the greening of dark-grown pea (Pisum sativum) and bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) seedlings. No significant changes in glycerolipid concentrations in the leaves were observed during the early stages of greening (0-8 hour for peas and 0-12 hour for beans). On further greening, there was an increase in the proportion of galactolipid...

Complex toxic effects of Cd2+, Zn2+, and acid rain on growth of kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) were studied in a pot experiment by measurement of fresh weights of the plants, determination of surperoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and lipid peroxidation (MDA) in the plant organs, and observation of injury symptoms. The experimental results demonstrated that all treatments of Cd2+, Z...
متن کاملChanges in Prompt Chlorophyll Fluorescence and Oxygen Evolution after Bean Plant Treatment with Artificial Acid Rain
The effects of artificially applied acid rain on functional activity of PS2 and oxygen evolution of bean plants (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were investigated. The plants were subjected to single treatment with acid rain of different pH – pH 5.6 (control) and 2.4, 2.2, 2.0 and 1.8. Measurements were carried out in dynamics – at time intervals of 3–168 hours. The results showed that the treatment of ...
متن کاملPhase Behavior of Chloroplast and Microsomal Membranes during Leaf Senescence.
Wide angle x-ray diffraction of chloroplast and microsomal membranes from primary leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris has revealed that for both types of membrane, portions of the lipid become crystalline as the tissue senesces. For young leaves the transition temperature is about 23 C for microsomes and below -30 C for chloroplast membranes, indicating that at physiological temperature the lipid is e...

The apoplast is a distinct extracellular compartment in plant tissues that lies outside the plasma membrane and includes the cell wall. The apoplastic compartment of plant leaves is the site of several important biological processes, including cell wall formation, cellular nutrient and water uptake and export, plant-endophyte interactions and defence responses to pathogens. The infiltration-cen...
